Challenge 10: From active listening to creative writing - Flat ...

My lesson plan proposes a series of activities that will help advanced Spanish learners listening, speaking and writing skills. ?I chose a chronicle from Radio Ambulante, a radiocast website aiming at promoting Spanish chronicles for a US based market. I wrote a first version of this lesson here.

This lesson will probably will be an end of unit lesson where the students and the teacher have used all the tech tools, the language arts techniques and are learning to be a XXI century professional (for teachers and students alike).

Learning outcome: Produce a chronicle using any of these three media:

1. A podcast

2. A video

3. A blog entrance

Activities:

1. Listening to this chronicle?(El Otro, El Mismo) and complete the form (The form will be in a collaborative space like Google docs or Wiki)

2. With a partner discuss what are the key features of a chronicle compared with other genders and write a list of five or more. (They can use a collaborative space like Google docs or a wiki).?

3. Share with the class the features (The teacher can record in any of these tools for brainstorming)

4. The class vote and agree a set of rules for a chronicle .

5. Decide with your partner the media of your chronicle.?

6. Choose a topic from this Pinterest?board.

6. Write a script using this?tool with your partner

7. Check that your script complies with the agreed tools and the assessment rubric.

8. Produce your video/podcast/blog entrance. Speak slowly, do not move the camera (use a tripod) and check your spelling.

9. Assess and publish your comments on at least one piece of work

10.Assess and publish your comments on your piece of work

I have not checked all the tools.?

Assessment Rubrics:

1. Does the chronicle comply with the agreed rules?

2. Does the chronicle include at least one justified opinion?

3. Does the chronicle include at least one "subjuncitive?

4. What did you like about the piece?

5. What will you do differently?

6.What will you do for improving it?

My assessment rubrics will include components of the "official" criteria. In the UK, some examination boards will ask advanced students to be able to justified their opinion and use the "subjunctive", among others. I will always include the last three criteria because I believe that as part of been a XXI c citizen you must be able to comment on others works, to celebrate and to help others improve their work.
